Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his country’s desire to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with Libya, aiming to strengthen cooperation across all vital sectors.
President Xi Jinping made the remarks during his meeting with Mohamed al-Mnifi, Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, who is in Beijing for the 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum.
According to a statement from Al-Mnifi’s office, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring ways to develop them further.
Both leaders underscored the importance of building a strategic partnership that serves the interests of both nations.
The statement highlighted the significance of reactivating the Libya-China Joint Committee. They also agreed on the return of Chinese companies to Libya, with the details to be finalised through the committee. President Xi affirmed China’s readiness to offer all forms of support and cooperation to Libya in various fields in the coming period.
Xi also emphasised China’s firm stance in supporting the Libyan people and the Presidential Council in maintaining Libya’s sovereignty and unity. He called for an end to all negative foreign interventions in Libyan affairs.
China’s official news agency Xinhua quoted Xi as saying that China shares a longstanding friendship with Libya. He reiterated that China’s commitment to supporting stable development in Libya will remain unchanged, regardless of the evolving situation. Xi expressed his country’s support for Libya in finding a path towards peace, stability, and prosperity through dialogue and consultation.
The meeting is seen as a positive step towards strengthening the ties between China and Libya, with both leaders expressing optimism about the future of bilateral cooperation.
