Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani reiterated their commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Libya.

They emphasised the importance of restoring security and stability in the north African state.

During a phone call on Thursday, the two leaders discussed ongoing efforts to support a Libyan-led solution to the crisis, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency posted on Facebook.

Both presidents stressed the need to advance cooperation between Egypt and Mauritania, strengthening bilateral relations across various fields.

This aligns with the strong ties between the two nations and serves the mutual aspirations and interests of their peoples.

President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s support for Mauritania’s leadership of the African Union, hoping it would contribute to achieving the continent’s goals of stability and development.

President El-Ghazouani is set to visit Libya on October 11-12, leading an African delegation that includes Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso and African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.

According to Jeune Afrique magazine, the delegation will visit both Tripoli and Benghazi, meeting with key Libyan factions to push forward national reconciliation efforts.
