Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty emphasised Egypt’s commitment to Libya’s unity and territorial integrity during a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares.

Abdel Aty highlighted the importance of speeding up the process for holding simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya. He expressed that achieving these elections is essential for the country’s stability and progress.

The Egyptian minister also underlined the urgency of unifying Libya’s institutions, with a specific focus on integrating security bodies. He stressed that the consolidation of state institutions would play a critical role in securing Libya’s future and ensuring peace.

Both ministers affirmed their mutual interest in regional stability and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between their countries in addressing the Libyan crisis. Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt’s consistent support for all initiatives that foster a political solution without external interference.

Albares, on his part, echoed Egypt’s call for elections and institutional unification. He emphasised that Spain stands ready to support Libya on its path towards stability and expressed the European Union’s broader interest in fostering democratic governance in the region.

The press conference concluded with both officials urging the Libyan factions to prioritise national unity and calling on the international community to assist in creating a conducive environment for free and fair elections.
