New Initiative to Strengthen Climate Monitoring in Libya

The Ministry of Water Resources under the Libyan government has announced the formation of a specialized emergency committee aimed at responding promptly to environmental challenges and natural disasters. This initiative includes a comprehensive action plan featuring preventive measures to mitigate risks.

The emergency committee comprises experts and specialists from various departments within the ministry. Their primary tasks include:

Infrastructure Inspection: Conducting thorough surveys of critical infrastructure, including dams, drainage networks, and river management systems.
Risk Assessment: Analyzing the state of these facilities and evaluating potential risks to ensure their readiness for emergency scenarios.
Monitoring Climate Changes: Closely tracking weather updates through local and international meteorological reports to stay informed about any shifts in climate conditions. This includes maintaining direct communication with weather centers for real-time data.
Addressing Unregulated Construction
The committee will also address the issue of unauthorized buildings constructed along river paths and develop strategies for their removal or restructuring. These actions aim to minimize the risks associated with flooding and improve coordination among relevant authorities.

Emphasis on Coordination and Preparedness
The Ministry stressed the importance of close coordination between governmental and non-governmental entities to ensure rapid and efficient responses to emergencies. Strengthening collaboration between these bodies will play a vital role in tackling potential crises effectively.

This proactive approach by the Libyan government reflects a renewed focus on disaster preparedness, aiming to protect infrastructure and reduce risks related to environmental challenges.
