On Wednesday, the Libyan House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee Chair, Yousef Al-Agouri, recently held talks with Mohamed Al-Aswad, Deputy Director of Programs at Expertise France in Libya.

Expertise France, a cooperation agency of the French government, provides technical expertise worldwide. The discussion focused on harnessing French expertise to strengthen Libya’s parliamentary administration and improve governance capabilities.

Al-Aswad provided insights into Expertise France’s work in Libya during the call. Al-Agouri welcomed the potential collaboration and highlighted the importance of building the skills of parliamentary staff to improve efficiency. He expressed a strong interest in a specialized program tailored to Libya’s legislative needs, aimed at helping the House of Representatives perform its duties more effectively.

Al-Agouri emphasized that improving parliamentary administration has been a priority for Libya. The Foreign Affairs Committee has consistently sought stronger ties with French institutions, including the French Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. By collaborating with French experts, Libya hopes to draw on France’s extensive experience in governance, effective administration, and institutional coordination.

The Libyan Parliament’s partnership with Expertise France will focus on enhancing administrative functions and building a more capable legislative body. French expertise could help Libya streamline processes, ensure transparency, and create a governance structure that serves its citizens more effectively. Al-Agouri sees this collaboration as crucial for setting up a foundation for future progress and stability.

France has demonstrated its support for Libya’s reconstruction efforts through Expertise France’s work in governance, economic development, and healthcare. The French Embassy in Libya has also backed programs that share knowledge and build skills across Libyan institutions, reinforcing Libya’s long-term stability and governance capacity.

This partnership represents a meaningful step toward creating stronger legislative institutions in Libya. By working with French experts, the Libyan Parliament aims to develop administrative capabilities that will contribute to more responsive and accountable governance. As Libya continues its journey toward stability, this collaboration with France highlights a commitment to building effective, transparent institutions that benefit the Libyan people.
