The Greek Consul General in Libya, Agapios Kalognomis, has announced plans to establish a direct maritime route between Athens and Benghazi.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Greek Consulate in Benghazi on Monday, Kalognomis emphasised that the new line will facilitate travel and trade, fostering mutual benefits for both nations.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Parliament-designated government, the Greek Consul expressed gratitude for the ministry’s support in streamlining diplomatic procedures and assisting the Greek mission in Libya.

“Benghazi is experiencing a renaissance in various urban and civil sectors, paving the way for expanded political and economic cooperation,” Kalognomis stated.

The event was attended by officials from the Foreign Ministry of the eastern-based government, Egyptian Consul General Mohamed Arafa, Italian Consul General Francesco De Luigi, and Federica Reho, head of the visa section at the Italian Consulate in Benghazi. Representatives of the Greek community and other dignitaries also participated.

The planned maritime link is expected to bolster connections between Greece and Libya, contributing to economic development and strengthening bilateral relations.
