On Tuesday, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), hosted Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and his delegation at the General Command headquarters.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in counterterrorism efforts and enhancing joint strategies to promote security and stability in Libya and the broader region.

In a statement released by the LNA, the delegation praised the military’s critical role in maintaining security and stability across the country. They also acknowledged the importance of the General Command in Libya’s ongoing political process, emphasizing its centrality in shaping the nation’s future.

The visit marks another significant step in the evolving relationship between Russia and the LNA, as Moscow seeks to deepen its engagement in Libya. Haftar’s leadership and the LNA’s military campaigns have made them pivotal in combating extremism and stabilizing key areas, particularly in the east and south of the country.

Russia has long recognized Libya’s strategic importance, leveraging its influence to secure partnerships with key players. This meeting underscores Moscow’s intent to remain a vital stakeholder in Libya’s security and political dynamics while supporting the LNA in its efforts to combat extremism and strengthen governance.

The discussions between Haftar and Yevkurov come at a time when Libya faces ongoing political challenges. The collaboration highlights the LNA’s commitment to addressing immediate security threats and contributing to the country’s long-term political stabilization.

This engagement between the LNA and Russia demonstrates a shared interest in countering terrorism and supporting regional peace, further solidifying their partnership in Libya’s evolving landscape.
