The Libyan Relief Authority, Eastern Region Branch, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), has successfully concluded the distribution of food baskets in the city of Derna. This initiative has benefited 100 families and 22 children, providing much-needed humanitarian support to vulnerable groups.

According to the Libyan Relief Authority, the initiative aims to address the urgent nutritional needs of affected families and improve food security in the region, especially amid Libya’s ongoing challenges.

The authority emphasized that these efforts are part of its ongoing cooperation with the WFP to enhance food security and support the most impacted populations in Libya.

The Libyan Relief Authority reiterated its commitment to continuing coordination with international and local partners to ensure aid reaches all eligible beneficiaries across different regions. Special focus is placed on vulnerable groups, including children and low-income families.

In conclusion, the authority extended its gratitude to the WFP for its generous support and called on all relevant entities to strengthen collaboration to promote humanitarian stability in Libya.

Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations.

Libya’s economy, heavily reliant on oil, has suffered due to the ongoing conflict. The instability has led to fluctuations in oil production and prices, impacting the global oil market and Libya’s economy.

The conflict has led to a significant humanitarian crisis in Libya, with thousands of people killed, and many more displaced. Migrants and refugees using Libya as a transit point to Europe have also faced dire conditions.

The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition.

Despite the ceasefire, security remains a significant concern with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters. The unification of the military and the removal of foreign forces are crucial challenges.
