The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, has announced steady progress in forming a new unified government through full coordination between the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS).
In a statement reported by Libya Al-Hadath TV, Saleh emphasized that the selection of the Prime Minister will occur through a transparent process in a public HoR session. He welcomed the presence of stakeholders in Libyan affairs to ensure integrity and transparency throughout the proceedings.
Saleh revealed that two additional applications for the Prime Ministerial position have been accepted, meeting the required conditions. He underscored his rejection of any foreign interference in Libya’s internal matters.
The Speaker highlighted the importance of international support through advisory committees providing expertise in areas such as local governance, resource management, equitable distribution of wealth, and unifying oversight institutions like the Administrative Control Authority, the Anti-Corruption Authority, and the Audit Bureau.
Saleh confirmed that Khaled Shakshak would continue serving as the head of the Audit Bureau until legal procedures conclude. Any leadership changes in the Bureau will follow the formation of the new government.
He also praised the crucial role of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, describing it as a vital sovereign institution under the HoR’s authority.
On the issue of Libya’s frozen funds, Saleh stated that a formal letter had been sent to the United Nations Security Council urging the preservation of these assets to prevent illegal exploitation by unauthorized parties.
Regarding recent diplomatic efforts, Saleh disclosed discussions with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s envoy, who affirmed his country’s support for the HoR’s initiatives during this critical period. The envoy also endorsed the council’s move to form a new government focused on overseeing elections and fulfilling transitional duties.
Saleh concluded by announcing that next week, a delegation of HCS members would visit Al-Qubba to finalize discussions on the government formation and other national issues.
