Turkey has announced the resumption of direct flights to Benghazi through Turkish Airlines, starting Tuesday, signaling a renewed commitment to strengthening ties with Libya.

These remarks came during Turkish Ambassador to Libya, Güven Begeç’s meeting with the Chairman of the Benghazi Municipality’s Steering Council, Al-Saqr Boujwari, during his visit to Benghazi

During the talks, the ambassador emphasized Turkey’s intention to reopen its consulate in Benghazi soon. He described the decision as part of Ankara’s broader efforts to bolster cooperation with Libya, particularly in economic and developmental sectors. The reopening of the consulate is expected to streamline diplomatic and economic interactions, further enhancing bilateral relations.

The discussions also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure, reconstruction, and urban development. Turkish companies, known for their expertise in these fields, have been active in Libya’s rebuilding efforts, and both sides stressed the importance of fostering partnerships between the private sector and local authorities.

Boujwari welcomed Turkey’s initiatives, underscoring the value of reopening the consulate to facilitate smoother coordination. He also pointed to the need for deeper economic collaboration and the exchange of technical expertise, particularly in infrastructure and public service development.

The resumption of flights to Benghazi and the planned consulate reopening mark significant steps in Turkey’s expanding engagement with eastern Libya. These measures are expected to create new opportunities for trade, investment, and people-to-people connections between the two nations.

The decision to reopen the consulate also reflects Turkey’s strategy of enhancing its diplomatic presence across Libya. By engaging more closely with eastern Libya, Ankara aims to support stability, development, and cooperation in a region that is vital to Libya’s economic and political recovery.

As Libya continues its post-conflict rebuilding process, Turkey’s involvement is likely to grow, driven by its ability to offer world-class expertise and resources.
