Belqasem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, has conducted an extensive field tour of housing, infrastructure, and healthcare projects, stressing the urgent need to accelerate implementation and resolve technical and administrative challenges hindering progress.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to boost project delivery rates and improve public services in eastern Libya, particularly in cities undergoing large-scale reconstruction and development.

Haftar began his tour in the city of Al-Qubba, where he inspected a major housing project involving the construction and completion of 2,000 residential units. During the visit, he reviewed progress levels and execution phases, while holding a detailed meeting with contracting companies and engineering teams. Discussions focused on timelines, obstacles, and practical solutions to ensure faster completion.

He called for immediate action to address bottlenecks, urging all stakeholders to enhance performance and adhere strictly to delivery schedules. The push comes amid increasing pressure to meet housing demand and improve living standards across the region.

The tour also included a review of municipal needs, particularly in road infrastructure, public utilities, and the healthcare sector. Haftar highlighted the importance of integrated development, including support for sports facilities as part of broader community infrastructure.

In Derna, Haftar visited the Al-Wahda Teaching Hospital, a 300-bed facility, where he assessed operational readiness and the level of medical services provided. The hospital is a key component of ongoing efforts to rebuild and modernise healthcare infrastructure in the city following years of strain on public services.

Haftar reaffirmed that healthcare development remains a strategic priority for the Fund, noting that direct field supervision is central to accelerating delivery and ensuring tangible development outcomes.

The Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund has been leading multiple projects across eastern and southern Libya under a broader national vision aimed at upgrading infrastructure, expanding housing capacity, and improving essential services.
