Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, met with British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, to discuss forming a joint economic committee aimed at enhancing economic and investment ties. The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on fostering collaboration between chambers of commerce and business leaders in both countries.

The discussions also addressed the possibility of resuming operations of British companies in Libya to complete previously contracted projects across various sectors, according to a statement by the Ministry of Economy and Trade on its official Facebook page.

Minister Al-Hwaij emphasised the importance of coordinated British support for Libya’s recovery and economic stability. He called for aligning efforts to achieve long-term economic goals and stability within the region.

Furthermore, Al-Hwaij instructed the Department of Foreign Trade to strengthen cooperation with the British Embassy’s economic advisor. This step aligns with efforts to develop bilateral relations and foster sustainable economic partnerships.

Ambassador Longden reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Libya’s economic recovery and encouraging British businesses to contribute to the country’s reconstruction. He also highlighted the UK’s interest in building robust commercial links with Libya, which are expected to benefit both nations significantly.

The meeting marks a positive step towards revitalising Libya’s economy and leveraging international partnerships to support national development. As Libya continues its path towards stability, economic cooperation with key international partners remains a critical component of its recovery efforts.
