Turkey’s Yunus Emre Institute, a prominent cultural organization, is preparing to open its first center in Libya’s capital, Tripoli.
The initiative reflects Turkey’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural and historical ties with Libya.
The announcement follows a meeting between Turkey’s Ambassador to Libya, Güven Begeç, and Yalçın Doğan, the acting coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Tripoli.
During the meeting, they discussed plans to launch the institute’s activities and its potential for cultural collaboration in Libya. Doğan emphasized the deep historical and cultural links between Libya and Turkey, expressing the institute’s commitment to enriching these ties through educational and cultural programs.
The center in Tripoli is expected to begin operations soon, offering cultural activities, language courses, and events aimed at fostering dialogue and mutual understanding. Furthermore, the Yunus Emre Institute plans to expand its presence in Libya by opening additional offices in Benghazi and Misrata, ensuring its programs reach more regions of the country.
This initiative comes as part of Turkey’s broader cultural diplomacy strategy, which seeks to strengthen relationships through soft power. By opening the Yunus Emre Institute in Libya, Turkey is reinforcing its role as a partner in Libya’s rebuilding efforts while emphasizing shared cultural heritage and historical connections.
In recent years, Turkey has deepened its engagement with Libya, supporting the Tripoli-based government in the country and playing a key role in its reconstruction efforts.
The planned activities of the Yunus Emre Institute in Libya are expected to include Turkish language courses, cultural workshops, exhibitions, and academic collaborations. These programs aim to create opportunities for cultural exchange while supporting Libya’s social and cultural recovery during a crucial period of its history.
