The Libyan Interior Ministry under the Government of National Unity (GNU) announced on Wednesday that it had freed a group of Bangladeshi nationals who had been kidnapped in the city of Sorman. The operation also led to the arrest of the perpetrators, who were referred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
In an official statement, the ministry confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Unit of Sorman’s Security Directorate successfully carried out the operation, ensuring the hostages’ safe release.
“All necessary legal measures have been taken against the suspects, who have been detained and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation,” the ministry stated.
The Interior Ministry reiterated its commitment to combating crime in all forms, praising the efforts of security forces in maintaining public safety and enforcing the rule of law.
Libya has struggled with security challenges in recent years, with criminal networks and armed groups exploiting instability for human trafficking, kidnapping, and extortion. The government has intensified efforts to curb these activities, particularly in areas where migrant workers are frequently targeted.
This latest operation highlights ongoing security concerns and the government’s determination to address organised crime and protect both Libyan citizens and foreign residents.
