Libya’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, has urged all relevant entities to support the Development and Reconstruction Fund to accelerate progress on key infrastructure projects while ensuring compliance with required standards.

Speaking at the inauguration of Benghazi International Stadium, Saleh described the opening of the Benghazi Sports City as a major achievement for the fund, highlighting its role in the country’s ongoing reconstruction efforts. He called for increased efforts to complete planned projects that would contribute to Libya’s development.

Saleh emphasised that investing in sports infrastructure reflects a commitment to improving public health, fostering personal development, and promoting ethical values through sports. He stressed the importance of providing high-quality facilities that align with international standards.

The reopening of Benghazi International Stadium marks a significant milestone for Libya’s sports sector, which has faced numerous challenges due to years of conflict and instability. The Development and Reconstruction Fund, established to rebuild Libya’s war-torn cities, has been at the forefront of efforts to restore essential infrastructure.

Libya’s reconstruction drive has gained momentum in recent months, with several projects aimed at revitalising urban centres, improving public services, and boosting economic recovery. However, challenges remain, including funding constraints and the need for enhanced coordination between government institutions and private sector stakeholders.

Observers see the reopening of Benghazi’s sports complex as a symbol of resilience and progress, with hopes that continued investment in infrastructure will contribute to stability and national unity. Saleh’s remarks highlight the critical role of sports in post-conflict recovery, reinforcing the need for sustained efforts to rebuild Libya’s facilities and services.
