On Sunday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) launched the ‘Libyan Women’s Platform,’ a private Facebook group aimed at empowering women, promoting gender equality, and increasing their participation in political and social affairs.

The initiative was introduced on March 8, 2025, in celebration of International Women’s Day, reinforcing the UN’s commitment to supporting women’s rights and leadership in Libya.

The platform is designed as a dedicated space for Libyan women to engage in discussions, share experiences, and exchange ideas on key issues affecting their rights and opportunities.

It also serves as a forum to explore challenges and solutions while respecting Libyan cultural values, national legislation, and international women’s rights frameworks.

Managed by a team from UNSMIL, the group ensures a safe and inclusive environment where women can discuss issues such as political engagement, economic empowerment, social development, and access to education and healthcare.

By providing a platform for open dialogue, the initiative seeks to amplify women’s voices and encourage their active role in shaping Libya’s future.

UNSMIL emphasized that the platform is not just about discussions but also about collaboration and action, creating opportunities for women to contribute to decision-making processes and connect with like-minded individuals and organizations advocating for gender equality and social progress.

The mission has made the group accessible through a link shared on its official Facebook page, inviting Libyan women from all backgrounds to join and participate. This digital initiative is expected to enhance women’s representation in Libya’s political and social landscape, helping to bridge gaps and strengthen their role in national reconciliation and sustainable development.

As Libya continues to undergo political and societal transformations, platforms like the ‘Libyan Women’s Platform’ are seen as essential tools for fostering inclusive dialogue and ensuring women’s contributions are recognized in building a stable and prosperous Libya.
