The Benghazi Municipal Council has held an important meeting with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) representative in Libya, Mohamed Fayazi, to discuss a comprehensive plan for improving the city’s drinking water network.
The discussions focused on coordinating efforts with the General Company for Water and Wastewater to enhance the urban infrastructure in Benghazi.
The meeting took place in Benghazi and was chaired by the head of the municipal council, Al-Saqr Boujouari. Attendees included Tushar Rane, Director of UNICEF’s Benghazi Office, Malik Bin Khayal, Head of Health, Water, and Environmental Sanitation Programmes, and Osama Al-Karra, Director of the Municipality’s Projects Department.
The primary goal of the talks was to establish clear strategies for developing the city’s water distribution network. This initiative is part of a broader urban planning and infrastructure development programme aimed at improving essential services for Benghazi’s growing population.
During the meeting, officials also reviewed the ongoing projects and programmes currently being implemented by UNICEF in Benghazi. These include efforts to improve healthcare, education, child protection, and water and sanitation services.
Al-Saqr Boujouari praised UNICEF’s continued support for projects that focus on children’s welfare, health, and education in the city. He emphasised the municipality’s readiness to fully cooperate with UNICEF to implement these initiatives successfully. Boujouari highlighted that such partnerships are essential for serving the public interest and advancing the city’s infrastructure.
The meeting reflects the growing collaboration between Benghazi’s local authorities and international organisations such as UNICEF, with the aim of rebuilding and modernising the city’s vital services after years of conflict and instability.
