Algeria has appointed a new ambassador to Libya, signalling a renewed commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties between the two neighbouring nations. The newly designated ambassador, Abdelkrim Rekibi, officially began his duties in Tripoli on Thursday.
Rekibi presented his credentials to Taher Al-Baour, the Acting Foreign Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU), during a formal ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by senior Libyan officials, including the Director of Arab Affairs and the Director of Protocol.
In an official statement posted on the Ministry’s Facebook page, Al-Baour welcomed the Algerian diplomat and expressed warm wishes for his success. He emphasised the depth of the historic and brotherly relations between Libya and Algeria, describing them as strong and enduring.
Al-Baour also stressed the ministry’s readiness to offer full support and necessary facilitation to enable the ambassador to carry out his diplomatic duties effectively. He noted that Algeria plays a key role in regional affairs and that both countries are eager to expand their cooperation across various sectors.
The appointment comes at a time when both Libya and Algeria are exploring ways to boost joint efforts in political, economic, and security matters. Rekibi’s arrival is seen as a positive step towards increasing coordination and mutual understanding between Tripoli and Algiers.
