In the Libyan town of Al-Asbi’ah, a renewed wave of unexplained fires has engulfed 27 homes over the course of Friday and Saturday, with 10 of these residences experiencing such devastation for the first time. The local municipality has reported that investigations are ongoing to determine the causes behind these recurring incidents.
On Friday, 12 homes were reported ablaze, including four new cases. One member of the National Safety Authority suffered from smoke inhalation and was subsequently transferred to a medical facility in Tripoli for treatment. The following day, Saturday, saw fires in 15 homes, six of which were newly affected.
Firefighting and rescue teams from the National Safety Authority’s support and backing center have been deployed to Al-Asbi’ah, initiating operations to extinguish the flames and control the fire outbreaks.
The municipality has urged residents to exercise caution and fully cooperate with the relevant authorities to safeguard lives and property. They emphasized the importance of facilitating the movement of firefighting and ambulance vehicles and restricting access to the damaged homes to authorized personnel and the homeowners themselves.
Previously, Mayor Imad Al-Maqtouf stated that since February 19, the ongoing fires have caused significant damage to over 160 homes. He affirmed that civil defense teams continue their efforts to assess the losses and prevent the fires from spreading further.
The municipality indicated that an official report detailing the causes of the fires will be released in the coming days following the completion of field inspections. There are growing local demands for a thorough investigation into these incidents and the implementation of necessary measures to protect residents and their properties.
