The Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), Masoud Suleiman, and board member Hussein Safar inaugurated the third meeting of the Libya-Algeria Joint Cooperation Committee on Monday.
The forum, held at the NOC headquarters in Tripoli, brought together senior representatives from Algeria’s Sonatrach Academy and the Algerian Petroleum Institute, along with Libya’s General Directorate of Training and training managers from oil sector companies.
The meeting focused on enhancing professional training, knowledge transfer, and technical exchange between the two countries’ energy sectors.
Sonatrach delivered a detailed presentation outlining its training strategies, field mechanisms, and experience in skill development—aimed at empowering Libyan oil professionals.
Suleiman emphasised the importance of ensuring equal training opportunities for employees across all oil fields and facilities, especially those stationed at remote sites.
He highlighted the need to prioritise safety training and professional certification, key to maintaining high standards in Libya’s oil and gas industry.
He also praised Sonatrach’s commitment to modern training methods, noting that Libya stands to benefit significantly from Algeria’s technical expertise. The collaboration, he added, will help prepare Libyan professionals for the evolving demands of the global energy sector.
The NOC’s training initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise the Libyan energy workforce, improve operational efficiency, and support sustainable development in the sector. Both sides agreed on the value of continued cooperation and pledged to expand joint training programmes in the coming months.
The committee also discussed new strategies to standardise training models and develop long-term partnerships between educational institutions and energy companies in both countries.
This strengthened alliance between Libya and Algeria represents a key step towards building regional energy resilience and fostering shared growth in the oil and gas sector.
