Belgassem Haftar, Director General of the Reconstruction and Development Fund, has signed a major contract with Ankamenia Construction Company to launch the renovation of the Medical Colleges Complex at the University of Benghazi.
Ankamenia, one of Libya’s leading construction firms, will carry out comprehensive maintenance and development works across the entire complex. The project includes the refurbishment of lecture halls, auditoriums, laboratories, activity centres, the main library, and all affiliated medical faculties.
The agreement marks a significant step in the national strategy to upgrade Libya’s educational infrastructure and modernise learning environments in line with international academic standards.
According to officials, the initiative is part of a broader reconstruction plan aimed at revitalising critical public institutions across Libyan cities. The medical education complex, a vital hub for training healthcare professionals, is one of several priority sites targeted for renovation.
Belgassem Haftar emphasised the importance of creating high-quality academic spaces that support both learning and innovation, especially in the health sector. He also praised the role of Libyan companies like Ankamenia in contributing to national development through local expertise and capabilities.
This project is a continuation of efforts led by the Fund to restore and improve Libya’s institutional infrastructure following years of conflict and neglect. It also reflects a renewed focus on education as a pillar of national recovery and sustainable growth.
