On Monday the Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, ordered the formation of a high committee to address the potential outbreak of COVID-19 in Libya.

He added that the committee would be tasked with providing technical, medical and security support and equipment to the Medical Advisory Committee in its work against the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

The committee will be headed by the LNA Commander. It will also include the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Health and the Head of the Medical Advisory Committee.

According to a statement, the advisory committee will be tasked with conducting medical tests for the virus and isolate patients if they test positive to the deadly virus.

The committee will also supervise and control medicines, as well as all medical and pharmaceutical preparations.

In addition, it will also be entrusted with monitoring international scientific research to be aware of the latest developments regarding Covid-19.

Despite the fact that Libya has not yet confirmed any cases of COVID-19 (commonly known as Coronavirus), the government has taken strict measures to prevent an outbreak of the virus inside the country.

Schools in and around Benghazi will stay closed for two weeks.
