Libyan lawmakers met with an Italian parliamentary delegation in the Italian city of Rimini to discuss ways of facilitating political dialogue between Libya’s rival factions.

According to Italy’s Nova agency, the informal meeting included Italian Senator Marco Scurria, head of the international parliamentary group “Friends of Libya,” along with Nicola Colicchi, head of the Italian-Libyan Chamber of Commerce.

The gathering was attended by Libya’s ambassador in Rome, Mohannad Saeed Ahmed Younis, and four MPs from Tripoli, Benghazi, and Fezzan.

Scurria stressed the importance of Libyan MPs from west, east, and south traveling together to Rimini, calling it a symbolic gesture that could foster parliamentary dialogue in support of Libya’s political transition.

The Italian side emphasized Rome’s growing interest in Libya, with Scurria hinting at future initiatives, including a possible Italian-Libyan parliamentary conference in Benghazi focused on Mediterranean and environmental sustainability.
