Libya and Germany held official talks to deepen cooperation on energy transition, focusing on sustainable development, innovation, and investment in clean technologies.

The meeting took place in Tripoli between Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, and German Ambassador to Libya, Ralf Joseph Tarraf.

During the talks, the Libyan Minister highlighted the country’s long-term strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce environmental impact, including efforts to gradually shift from reliance on oil and gas toward integrating renewable energy sources.

He also reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to achieving a balanced energy portfolio by 2035 that combines hydrocarbons with solar and wind power.

Additionally, they discussed Libya’s national initiative Generation of Energy, which aims to engage young people in the future of the energy sector. The program includes awareness campaigns, technical workshops, innovation competitions, mentorships, and hands-on training, led by both Libyan and international experts. It also seeks to create a culture of innovation and build a new generation of energy professionals.

The minister emphasized the importance of investing in modern technology and human capital to unlock the full potential of Libya’s natural resources while creating economic opportunities.

He also underlined the government’s goal to completely eliminate gas flaring by 2030 and to develop the gas industry for both domestic use and export, especially to the European market.
