Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), held a phone conversation with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby to discuss recent developments in the Tibesti region.

According to a statement from the LNA media office, President Déby assured Haftar that the Chadian government had restored control over the situation in Tibesti. He confirmed that Chadian forces had stabilised the border areas and secured them under the army’s authority.

General Haftar expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Chadian military, noting that their swift actions had strengthened calm and stability in northern Chad. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between Libya and Chad to safeguard their shared border.

Highlighting the significance of regional security, Haftar underlined that stability in Chad directly impacts Libya’s security and national interests. He reaffirmed that the LNA leadership values joint consultations with neighbouring countries to address cross-border threats such as smuggling, trafficking, and militant activity.

The phone call comes at a time when both Libya and Chad are grappling with challenges in managing vast desert frontiers that have long been used by armed groups and smugglers. Enhanced bilateral coordination is seen as essential to maintaining border security and preventing instability from spilling over into neighbouring territories.

Libyan military officials emphasised that the LNA remains committed to reinforcing cooperation with Chad and other regional partners. The call between Haftar and Déby underscores a shared commitment to ensuring peace and security along the Libyan-Chadian frontier.
