The United States has reiterated its commitment to strengthening economic ties with Libya, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
In a statement posted on X, the US Chargé d’Affaires in Libya, Jeremy Berndt, confirmed that Washington remains determined to work with the Libyan government to boost trade relations that benefit both countries. His remarks followed a meeting held in Tripoli with Libya’s Acting Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdulsadek.
Berndt welcomed Libya’s growing interest in attracting more American investments into its oil and gas sector, describing energy cooperation as a vital area for mutual growth. According to the Libyan News Agency, the talks underscored the opportunities available for US companies to play a larger role in Libya’s energy market.
During the meeting, Abdulsadek outlined the recent activities of the Government of National Unity’s delegation in Washington earlier this month. The official visit, he said, opened new channels of cooperation and showcased Libya’s potential to strengthen its investment environment.
A statement from the Ministry of Oil and Gas emphasised the importance of building on this momentum. It encouraged American companies to establish offices in Libya and to enhance their direct presence at project sites. Officials stressed that such moves would help reinforce confidence in Libya’s business climate and bring advanced expertise to the country’s energy industry.
The United States has consistently signalled support for Libya’s economic recovery, highlighting energy as a cornerstone of sustainable growth. With renewed diplomatic engagement, both nations appear ready to deepen cooperation that could help stabilise Libya’s economy while supporting US energy security goals.
