The Sudanese Consulate General in Benghazi has announced the extension of registration for Sudanese nationals wishing to return voluntarily to their country. The process, initially scheduled to close earlier, will now continue until mid-October 2025.
According to the consulate, registration is being carried out electronically through a designated online form. The initiative aims to facilitate the safe and organised repatriation of Sudanese citizens who have expressed a desire to return home amid ongoing challenges in both Libya and Sudan.
The consulate clarified that Sudanese nationals living in several Libyan regions can access the registration process through their respective community offices. These include residents in Marj, Bayda, Shahat, Quba, Derna, Tobruk, Brega, Ajdabiya, Jalu, Awjila, Kufra, Sabha and Jufra. Community representatives in these areas will assist in verifying information and completing the registration procedure.
Officials also stressed the importance of adhering to the rules of the registration system. Any individual found to have submitted multiple applications across different locations will automatically lose eligibility for repatriation. The consulate urged all applicants to register promptly and accurately in order to secure their place in the programme.
The extension reflects the growing demand among Sudanese citizens residing in Libya to benefit from voluntary return schemes. Thousands of Sudanese have moved to Libya over the past decade, many seeking safety or economic opportunities, but the deteriorating conditions in both countries have left many families considering repatriation.
The consulate highlighted that the voluntary return programme is part of broader humanitarian efforts coordinated with local communities. The scheme is designed to ensure that the process is transparent, fair and efficient, while reducing the risks of irregular migration or displacement.
Sudanese nationals are encouraged to complete their registration before 15 October 2025 to avoid missing the opportunity to participate in the initiative.
