Libya and the United Arab Emirates are taking concrete steps toward restoring direct air connectivity between the two countries after years of suspension.
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in civil aviation, Libya’s Minister of Transportation, Mohamed Salem Al-Shahoubi, met on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at Mitiga International Airport with Ahmed Ibrahim Taher, envoy from Dubai’s Civil Aviation Authority.
The meeting focused on the arrangements for resuming flights operated by Emirates Airlines and Flydubai between Dubai International Airport and the Libyan airports of Mitiga, Misrata, and Benghazi. Both sides discussed technical and security aspects necessary for ensuring safe and regular flight operations.
During the talks, it was agreed that delegations from both Emirati airlines will visit Libya soon to assess operational readiness and set a timetable for restarting services.
Minister Al-Shahoubi described the discussions as “a significant step toward restoring air links that benefit travellers and businesses alike.” He emphasised that the return of flights would help strengthen economic ties, boost tourism, and facilitate smoother movement for passengers between Libya and the UAE.
The Libyan Ministry of Transportation highlighted that cooperation between the two civil aviation authorities aims to ensure compliance with international safety standards while enhancing regional connectivity.
The restoration of flights is expected to mark a milestone in Libya’s reintegration into regional aviation networks, reflecting growing stability and renewed international confidence in the country’s transport sector.
