The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has repatriated 152 Syrian nationals from Tripoli to Damascus through Mitiga International Airport as part of a voluntary return programme.

According to the organisation, the flight was arranged at the request of Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, aiming to support families who have been living in Libya for more than a decade.

Osman Belbeisi, IOM’s Regional Director, said the organisation is working to expand its operations and services in Syria, with a primary focus on supporting the country’s recovery after years of conflict and ensuring a dignified and sustainable return for displaced Syrians and those returning from abroad.

Since 2015, IOM has facilitated the voluntary return of more than 105,000 migrants from Libya to their home countries under its humanitarian programmes.

The initiative reflects ongoing cooperation between Libya and international organisations to address the complex challenges of migration management and support vulnerable communities seeking safe and voluntary return.
