Libya’s Al-Afriki Zliten football club has made history by winning the African Minifootball Champions League title for the first time after a thrilling penalty shootout victory against Mauritania’s Barkewl.

The Libyan side lifted the prestigious trophy in Nouakchott after edging their Mauritanian rivals 3-2 on penalties, following a dramatic 4-3 win in regular time. The result mirrored the first leg in Libya, where Barkewl had also won 4-3, forcing the decisive final into a shootout.

Under immense pressure, Al-Afriki Zliten’s players held their nerve from the spot to secure Libya’s first-ever club triumph in the African Minifootball Champions League. The victory marks a proud moment for Libyan sport, coming just months after the national minifootball team claimed its first African Cup of Nations title in Derna last July.

The final in Nouakchott drew significant attention from fans across the continent, with both teams displaying attacking flair and determination throughout the contest. Al-Afriki Zliten’s resilience and teamwork proved decisive, as the Libyan champions overturned the aggregate deficit to claim continental glory.

The club’s management dedicated the win to the Libyan people, describing it as a testament to the country’s growing presence in the minifootball scene. They also expressed hopes that this success would inspire more investment and support for local sports development.

With this landmark victory, Ifrikiya Zliten have cemented their name in African minifootball history and strengthened Libya’s reputation as an emerging powerhouse in the sport.
