The General Director of the Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund, Engineer Belgassem Khalifa Haftar, conducted a field visit to review ongoing work on the construction and modernisation of Benghazi’s Benina International Airport.

During the visit, Haftar inspected key components of the project, including the construction of both the international and domestic passenger terminals, the airport administration building, and the air traffic control tower. He also reviewed progress on the development of runways, access roads, and internal airport facilities designed to meet international civil aviation standards.

According to the Fund, the inspection aimed to assess progress levels, ensure adherence to the project’s timeline, and address any technical or logistical challenges that might delay completion. Haftar emphasised the importance of maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency in all stages of the project’s execution.

Benina International Airport, located in Benghazi, serves as one of Libya’s most vital air transport hubs, and its redevelopment is viewed as a strategic step toward reviving the country’s aviation sector and supporting economic recovery in the eastern region.

This visit comes as part of the broader efforts led by the Libya Reconstruction and Development Fund to revitalise critical infrastructure projects nationwide. The Fund has prioritised airports, roads, and public service facilities as essential components of its national plan to stimulate sustainable growth and improve living conditions for citizens.

The Benina project is expected to enhance passenger capacity, improve safety standards, and provide modern facilities capable of accommodating international air traffic. The development also aims to boost tourism and business travel, linking Benghazi more effectively to regional and global destinations.

Haftar reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to completing the project within schedule and ensuring that it aligns with Libya’s long-term vision for reconstruction and stability.
