Eleven Libyan universities have been listed in the QS Arab Region University Rankings 2026, issued by the UK-based higher education agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) — one of the world’s most prestigious university ranking institutions.

The University of Tripoli topped the list of Libyan universities, followed by the University of Benghazi in the 181–191 category, and Al-Zaytuna University ranked within 191–200.

In the 201–250 bracket came Al-Asmariya University, Al-Mergeb University, Libyan International Medical University, Sebha University, and Sabratha University. Meanwhile, Misrata University, Sirte University, and Al-Zawiya University were placed within the 251–300 category.

The QS Rankings are among the most trusted and globally recognized university assessments, based on key indicators such as academic reputation, graduate employability, teaching quality, and research performance. These factors make QS an essential reference for students, parents, and educational institutions worldwide.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched a National Program to Enhance International Competitiveness of Libyan Universities, aiming to increase Libyan representation in global university rankings.

The Minister of Higher Education and ministry staff extended their congratulations to the universities that made the 2026 list, encouraging other institutions to intensify their efforts and prepare for upcoming evaluation cycles.
