The Head of Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, said the Commission is working to ensure an electoral environment that upholds fundamental freedoms and human rights, during a meeting on Monday with Abdelmoula Antisha, Acting President of the Steering Council for Freedoms and Human Rights. The meeting was attended by HNEC Board Member Rabab Halab.

According to a Commission statement, the two sides reviewed the latest developments in the electoral process and the technical and administrative measures currently underway as Libya prepares for upcoming national elections. The discussions focused on the progress of operational procedures, the readiness of polling structures, and the mechanisms being strengthened to support transparent and credible elections.

The talks also explored avenues of cooperation between HNEC and the Council for Freedoms and Human Rights, particularly in areas related to promoting transparency, safeguarding voter rights, and guaranteeing an electoral climate that respects the principles of freedom of expression, equal participation, and the protection of human rights.

Both parties stressed the importance of continued institutional coordination to ensure the elections are conducted in line with the highest recognised standards. They emphasised that such cooperation is essential for delivering a fair, responsible, and rights-based electoral process that reflects the aspirations of Libyan voters and strengthens confidence in the democratic transition.
