The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced the launch of a new digital platform aimed at strengthening the participation of Libyan youth in the country’s political dialogue process.
The platform targets young Libyans aged between 18 and 35 who are living inside Libya and wish to share their views on issues discussed within the framework of the structured political dialogue. According to UNSMIL, the initiative is designed to widen youth engagement nationwide and ensure that voices from different regions are represented.
In a statement, the mission said the platform will complement the work of youth representatives directly involved in the structured dialogue. It allows participants to submit opinions, proposals, and perspectives on key political and national issues, which will then be shared with youth members taking part in official dialogue sessions.
UNSMIL stressed that the digital tool aims to overcome geographical and logistical barriers that often limit youth involvement, particularly for those unable to attend meetings in person. By using the platform, young Libyans will have an opportunity to influence discussions related to governance, political transition, and national priorities.
The mission highlighted that youth participation is essential to achieving an inclusive and sustainable political process in Libya, especially at a time when the country continues to face prolonged institutional division and delayed elections.
UN Special Envoy Hanna Tetteh previously underlined the central role of young people in Libya’s future, stating that youth are not only the future of the country but also its present. She noted that young Libyans are among those most affected by the ongoing political crisis and stand to benefit the most from a peaceful transition that enables them to elect leaders of their choice.
UNSMIL said the platform forms part of its broader efforts to support Libyan-led dialogue and promote meaningful civic engagement. The mission encouraged eligible young people across Libya to register and actively participate, stressing that their input will help shape the political discussions that may define the country’s next phase.
