The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, arrived in the Libyan city of Benghazi on Wednesday on an official visit, marking the first time a senior Pakistani military official has traveled to Libya, according to a Libyan military source.

The source said that General Munir arrived accompanied by a high-level delegation following an official invitation from Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army.

The visit is scheduled to last two days and includes meetings with Haftar and senior Libyan military and security officials.

Libyan officials described the visit as a significant development in Libya’s expanding defense diplomacy and an important step toward strengthening bilateral military relations with Pakistan. Talks are expected to focus on areas of mutual interest, including military cooperation, security coordination, and the exchange of expertise in professional military training and leadership development.

The visit also reflects Benghazi’s growing role as a destination for high-level international military engagement. In recent years, the city has hosted delegations from several countries as part of Libya’s efforts to broaden its security partnerships and diversify its international relations.
