The Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgassem Khalifa Haftar, conducted an extensive field visit to the maintenance and redevelopment project at Al-Jalaa Teaching Hospital for Surgery and Trauma in Benghazi, as part of ongoing efforts to closely monitor major health-sector reconstruction projects and ensure the quality of work being carried out.
Hafar toured several hospital departments, reviewing progress across different phases of the project and assessing the technical standards applied during implementation.
During the visit, detailed briefings were presented on the scope of renovation works, timelines, and the measures taken to ensure continuity of medical services while upgrades are underway.
The redevelopment project is part of a broader plan aimed at rehabilitating key public hospitals, improving emergency and trauma care, and strengthening Libya’s healthcare infrastructure after years of strain and underinvestment.
Following the site tour, an expanded meeting was held to discuss the post-renovation phase and future development plans for Al-Jalaa Hospital. The meeting focused on raising operational efficiency, improving service delivery, preserving completed works, and ensuring long-term sustainability in line with approved medical and engineering standards.
Haftar praised the performance of national companies involved in the project, commending their commitment to quality requirements and project timelines. He stressed the importance of intensifying work according to precise schedules to ensure the project is completed and delivered at the highest possible standards.
