Flight operations have fully resumed at Mitiga International Airport after weather conditions improved and visibility returned to levels considered safe for aviation, ending a temporary suspension imposed earlier to protect passengers and flight crews.
Airport authorities confirmed that air traffic was reopened following a noticeable improvement in weather conditions, which had previously fallen below internationally approved safety standards. The temporary closure was implemented as a precautionary measure amid poor visibility, strong winds, and unstable atmospheric conditions that affected several parts of the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, the airport’s media office announced the suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights, emphasizing that the decision was taken strictly on safety grounds and in coordination with relevant aviation and meteorological authorities. The closure remained in effect until conditions stabilized and all operational safety checks were completed.
Following the reopening, Mitiga International Airport began receiving inbound flights and preparing for outbound departures. An aircraft operated by Afriqiyah Airways arriving from Cairo was among the first flights to land after air traffic resumed, marking the return of regular flight activity at the airport.
Shortly afterward, a flight operated by Taj Airlines also arrived from Cairo. According to airport sources, the aircraft is scheduled to depart later after completing routine ground services, operating a return flight to Alexandria. Additional flights are expected to follow as airlines gradually restore their schedules.
Airport officials stressed that all necessary safety and technical procedures were conducted before reopening the airspace, reaffirming that passenger safety remains the top priority. Travelers were advised to remain in contact with their airlines for the latest updates, as minor delays or schedule adjustments may continue while operations return to full capacity.
