Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, has welcomed Libya’s unified development agreement, saying it demonstrates the ability of Libyans to overcome political divisions.

In an official statement, Aboul Gheit said the signing of the agreement by representatives of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State marks a significant step forward, particularly as it includes the adoption of unified state spending tables for the first time in more than 13 years.

He noted that the move reflects continued institutional functioning and highlights Libya’s capacity to move beyond disputes when national interests are prioritised.

Aboul Gheit added that the agreement could help build confidence between Libyan parties and pave the way for broader political settlements aimed at ending prolonged transitional phases.

He also reaffirmed the Arab League’s readiness, through its specialised bodies, to support national efforts to implement the unified development programme and strengthen stability across Libya.
