Libya’s National Development Agency has announced the start of construction works for the Martyrs of Dignity Stadium in the city of Al-Marj, as part of a broader plan to upgrade international-standard sports facilities across the country.
The agency said the new stadium will have a capacity of 20,000 spectators and forms part of a national program aimed at strengthening Libya’s sports infrastructure and boosting the country’s readiness to host regional and international competitions.
According to the statement, Turkish firm Equip Construction Company has begun preliminary works after officially taking over the project site. The company has started preparing and equipping the location in line with approved technical requirements, while also establishing an on-site project management headquarters to ensure smooth workflow and close supervision of implementation.
Technical teams have completed comprehensive topographic surveys to accurately fix axes, levels, and coordinate points. Soil testing has also been carried out to verify geotechnical properties, alongside the preparation and approval of detailed engineering drawings and technical plans ahead of the main construction phase in accordance with the approved timetable.
The National Development Agency noted that the Al-Marj stadium is one of four international stadium projects currently underway under its development strategy. The program also includes new stadiums in Sirte, Ajdabiya, and Sabha, reflecting a wider push to modernize Libya’s sports facilities.
Officials say the initiative aims to support the sports sector, expand youth and community engagement, and enhance the capacity of Libyan cities to host major sporting events in line with international standards.
