The Libyan government tasked by the House of Representatives, headed by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, has expressed deep concern over what it described as dangerous developments in the region, warning that the situation could spiral into a broader conflict threatening regional and international stability.

In Statement No. (1) of 2026 on the latest developments, the government said the ongoing events represent a direct threat to peace and security in the region and constitute a clear violation of international law. It stressed that continued escalation places the region before unprecedented challenges and increases the risk of a worsening crisis.

The government strongly condemned attacks targeting the sovereignty of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. It affirmed Libya’s solidarity with these countries and its support for measures aimed at protecting their security, sovereignty, and the safety of their populations.

The statement underscored the priority of peaceful solutions, calling for dialogue and diplomatic pathways to prevail in order to avoid serious repercussions that could extend beyond the region. It also urged the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take practical steps to maintain international peace and security.

The position comes amid rapidly escalating military tensions following strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against targets inside Iran. Tehran later responded by targeting US bases in the Gulf, while the Israeli military announced the participation of around 200 fighter jets in what it described as one of the largest air operations in its history.

The Libyan government warned that the continued cycle of escalation could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability, reiterating its call for restraint and diplomatic engagement.
