Libyan and Chadian officials have held talks in the eastern city of Benghazi aimed at strengthening cooperation on migration management and regulating the legal status of Chadian nationals residing in Libya.
The meeting took place on Sunday at the headquarters of the Libyan Illegal Migration Control Agency, where its chairman Salah Mahmoud Al‑Khafifi received the Consul General of Chad, Hassan Al‑Daisiri, along with a diplomatic delegation.
Senior officials from the agency also attended the meeting, including the deputy head of the body, directors of the agency’s branches in the southern and eastern regions, and senior administrative and security officials. Representatives from the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation also participated, including the head of the Benghazi protocol office, officials responsible for border crossings, and representatives from the consular affairs department.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed a number of key issues related to Chadian migrants and residents currently living in Libya. The talks focused on ways to regulate their legal status in accordance with Libyan laws and immigration regulations.
Officials also discussed mechanisms for coordinating the repatriation of irregular migrants and individuals subject to deportation who hold Chadian nationality. The two sides emphasised the importance of establishing clear procedures and improving communication between relevant authorities in both countries.
Libyan officials stressed that enhanced coordination could help manage migration flows more effectively while ensuring that legal procedures are respected. The discussions also highlighted the need to address humanitarian and administrative challenges linked to migration in southern Libya, where many migrants enter the country through desert border crossings.
For his part, the Chadian consul general expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Libyan authorities on migration-related matters and to facilitate the processing of documentation for Chadian nationals.
Both sides agreed to maintain direct channels of communication between their respective institutions to streamline procedures and strengthen cooperation on migration management.
Officials said the discussions reflect broader efforts to reinforce bilateral relations and address shared challenges related to migration and border security between Libya and Chad.
