Libyan security forces have detained 257 undocumented migrants during a wide-scale operation targeting illegal migration in and around the eastern city of Benghazi.
The operation was carried out by the Security Operations Department under directives issued by the head of the agency, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi. The campaign forms part of ongoing daily efforts to curb irregular migration and address the presence of migrants residing in the country without legal documentation.
According to an official statement, the operation focused on the outskirts of Benghazi as well as the Al-Abyar municipality. Authorities confirmed that the migrants, from various nationalities, were found without valid legal documents, including passports.
Officials said the campaign is part of a broader security strategy aimed at enforcing immigration laws and maintaining public order. The authorities continue to prioritise tracking individuals who have not regularised their legal status, while intensifying field operations across key areas.
The crackdown reflects growing concern among Libyan authorities over irregular migration flows, particularly in eastern regions. Security agencies have stepped up coordination to address the issue, amid calls to strengthen border control and improve migration management mechanisms.
Libya remains a major transit hub for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean, making enforcement operations a key component of national security policy.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such campaigns on a daily basis, stressing that efforts will remain focused on reducing illegal migration and enhancing stability across the country.
