United Nations Support Mission in Libya Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator Ulrika Richardson has called for stronger inclusion of women in decision-making processes in Libya, alongside reforms to improve financial governance and transparency.
Speaking on April 11 at the First International Economic Conference on Transparency and Financial Governance, Richardson stressed that strengthening financial governance, transparency, and accountability is critical to restoring public trust, attracting investment, and achieving sustainable economic growth in Libya.
She highlighted the need to combat illicit financial flows, reinforce the resilience of banking systems, and make better use of digital transformation to modernise the country’s economic framework. These measures, she said, are essential to stabilising Libya’s financial institutions and improving economic performance.
Richardson also underlined the importance of inclusive participation, urging that women and youth must be fully integrated into economic institutions and decision-making processes. She described them as key drivers of Libya’s future economy, whose involvement is vital for long-term development and stability.
Her remarks come amid ongoing international efforts to support Libya’s economic reform agenda and strengthen governance structures, particularly in areas linked to financial oversight and institutional integrity.
