Libyan authorities have confirmed full control over a damaged Russian tanker following a recent maritime incident, stating that the situation has been stabilized and potential risks have been effectively contained.
The Crisis Committee responsible for managing the operation announced that technical teams successfully secured the vessel after it ran aground. According to committee spokesperson Majdi Al-Sharif, specialized crews carried out a series of coordinated procedures to ensure the tanker’s stability and prevent any escalation.
The response included deploying anchoring systems to secure the vessel and conducting comprehensive safety inspections. Technical teams used advanced detection equipment to confirm that no gas leaks were present in the surrounding area, significantly reducing the risk of fire or explosion.
As a precaution, authorities also activated an emergency response plan to address any potential oil spill. The plan involves the use of containment booms, absorbent materials, and dispersants to quickly control and limit any leakage. Emergency teams remain on high alert, operating under strict safety protocols to respond immediately if conditions change.
Officials emphasized that the situation is currently under control and that all measures are being implemented in accordance with international environmental protection standards. The primary objective, they noted, is to safeguard the marine environment and prevent any impact on Libya’s coastline and territorial waters.
