New Security Operation in Eastern and Western Libya

On Wednesday, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, ordered the formation of a security room for the Greater Benghazi area.

This will be headed by Lieutenant General Abdel-Razak Al-Nazouri, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan National Army (LNA). It will include the Interior Minister, the Director of Benghazi Security, the Director of the General Department for Criminal Research, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, and the Head of the Benghazi Internal Security Agency as members.

The room will operate according to the terms of reference, specified by the LNA’s General Command statement as follows:

1- Respecting human rights, freedom, and dignity, and ensuring the rule of law.
2- Imposing full security control of Benghazi.
3- Enhancing coordination between various security agencies, and the relevant military agencies to form detachments to confront any rebel forces.
4- Establishing an information centre and database.
5- Reducing negative phenomena, and smuggling.
6- Arresting all wanted criminals.
7- Evacuation of buildings that have been attacked, whether they are private or public properties.
8- Protecting private and public properties.
9- Deploying patrols at crossroads and main roads.
