On Monday, Libyan Airlines announced that it would resume its flights to Ghat, via Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport.

In a statement, the company’s spokesman, Muhammad Qeniwa, said that a Libyan Airlines flight will take off on Tuesday afternoon, from Mitiga Airport. He added that this step comes at the orders of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), and the Minister of Transportation’s instructions on the resumption of flights to all Libyan cities.

The spokesman noted that the resumption of flights to the southern region will alleviate the suffering of the citizens, who are currently forced to drive to the north of the country.

Arrangements are ongoing with all relevant authorities to ensure the safety of aircrafts and travellers. Efforts are also made to avoid any political disputes over this sector.

On Sunday, Afriqiyah Airways announced that it would begin operating direct flights from Benghazi to Alexandria. This is set to begin on Tuesday, 10 November.
