Russia: Conflict in Libya Has Helped the Spread of Terrorism

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said that continuing instability in the MENA region is the main source for the spread of terrorism.

“Dangerous instability continues in the Middle East and North Africa. The armed confrontation in Libya, Yemen, and Syria are the sources of the spread of the terrorist threat, drugs and weapons,” Putin said at a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

He pointed out that the movement of militants outside this region deserves “special attention,” because this “increases the intensity of conflicts.”

Last week, the Russian representative to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, called on all foreign forces and all foreign security companies to leave Libya as part of the recently signed ceasefire agreement.
