Abdul Salam Al-Hassi Becomes Commander of the Libyan Special Forces

On Sunday, Libyan National Army (LNA), Commander in Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, issued a decree appointing Major General Abdul Salam Al-Hassi as Commander of the Libyan Special Forces in Benghazi.

The Special Forces’ Moral Support and Guidance Department published photos of the moment Al-Hassi arrived at the Special Forces Headquarters to take over his duties after his assignment.

Al-Hassi will succeed Major General Wanis Bukhamada who passed away on November 1 at a hospital in Benghazi, following a heart attack.

Bukhamada was one of the LNA`s most prominent pillars who took upon themselves to liberate the country from terrorists and extremists. He was known as “Al Fahd Al Asmar”, the “Black leopard”.

Libyan Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh decided to promote Bukhamada to the rank of Lieutenant-General.

Haftar also issued a decree to give Bukhamada the honorary title of “Martyr of the armed forces.”
