On Friday, the Interior Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, met in Paris with the French Defence Minister, Florence Parly, to discuss the joint security cooperation between the two sides.
The media office of the Libyan minister said in a statement that Bashagha discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint action between Libya and France in security affairs.
During the meeting, a number of security issues in the field of combating organised crime and terrorism were also discussed, in addition to a number of issues of common interest, the statement added.
“The visit aimed at increasing the capabilities of the Ministry of Interior and providing the latest capabilities in accordance with the highest specifications and international standards,” the statement reads.
On Thursday, Bashagha arrived in Paris and was received by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean Yves Le Drian. The Libyan official discussed with the French top diplomat ways to enhance political stability in Libya and end the political division there. He also touched upon common national security for the two countries.
The Libyan Interior Minister also met his French counterpart, Gérald Darmanin, and agreed on the training of Libyan officers by the French elite police force. It was also agreed at this meeting to provide the necessary technologies and equipment in the field of combating illegal immigration and coastal security.
