On Thursday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, held a telephone conversation with his German counterpart, Heiko Maas. The two top diplomats discussed a number of issues of common concern, notably the situation in Libya.

Shoukry and Maas stressed the need to preserve Libya’s stability, unity, and territorial integrity. They also rejected any attempts of foreign interference in Libyan internal affairs.

The two FMs underlined the importance of reaching a comprehensive political solution based on the outcomes of the Berlin Conference and the Cairo Declaration. They also expressed their readiness to provide all possible support for rebuilding state institutions.

The talks also touched on developments related to the Palestinian issue, as the two discussed efforts to revive the peace process and resume negotiations.

They also re-affirmed their intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a number of fields, especially economic trade. Shoukry expressed Cairo’s aspiration to see German tourism resume in Egypt and highlighted the efforts, adopted by all concerned Egyptian ministries, to ensure the safety of foreign tourists in Egypt.
